Ghost gun, cocaine found during reckless driving stop in Madera, police say
A reckless-driving stop in Madera ended with an arrest after police say an officer spotted a firearm near the driver’s feet — and later found cocaine and a black ski mask inside the vehicle.
According to FOX26/KMPH, the traffic stop happened Sunday night near West Fourth Street and North I Street. Police said the officer pulled the vehicle over after seeing it being driven recklessly.
What police say was found
During the stop, the officer reportedly noticed a firearm on the floorboard next to the driver’s feet. Police said the gun’s serial number appeared to have been intentionally removed — a detail often associated with so-called “ghost guns” or untraceable firearms.
Police said a further search of the vehicle turned up:
Cocaine
A black ski mask
A firearm with the serial number removed
Suspect identified
Police identified the driver as Alan Guillen and said he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.
Authorities said Guillen was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on multiple charges.
Why this matters locally
Even though this started as a routine stop, Madera police suggested the outcome may have prevented more harm. In their statement quoted by FOX26/KMPH, police said proactive enforcement and vigilance likely helped prevent additional crimes that night.
What’s next
As of the latest public update, police have not released additional case details (including what led to the reckless driving or where the items were allegedly headed). We’ll update this post if court records or additional police statements add more clarity.
