Tracy Father of Triplets Abducted and Found Dead Near Lake Berryessa
Authorities are investigating the killing of a Tracy father who was taken by force earlier this month and later found dead in Napa County. Investigators say the victim was not the intended target.
According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, surveillance video shows Avtar Singh being confronted by several people near a Sikh temple in Tracy on Feb. 17. Singh appeared to resist. However, the suspects overpowered him and forced him into a vehicle.
Later that evening, Singh’s wife returned home and found their three young children alone. As a result, she reported her husband missing to authorities.
Several days later, deputies in Napa County located a body near Lake Berryessa. Officials later confirmed the remains belonged to Singh. At this time, the medical examiner has not released the official cause of death.
Sheriff Says Abduction Was Not Random
Sheriff Patrick Withrow said the suspects were likely looking for someone else. Because of this, investigators believe Singh was taken by mistake.
So far, officials have not shared details about a motive or named any suspects. Even so, detectives continue to review surveillance footage and follow new leads.
Community Remembers Local Volunteer
Members of the Sikh community described Singh as a devoted volunteer who helped prepare meals and support families at the temple. In addition, friends said he played a key role in daily operations.
Recently, the temple celebrated the return home of Singh’s newborn triplets after a hospital stay. Because of this tragedy, the community is now organizing fundraisers to support his family and help cover funeral costs.
Investigation Continues
The case remains an active homicide investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
As detectives continue their work, authorities say they will release updates when possible.
