Stockton Mail Theft Investigation Leads to 2 Arrests, 29 Charges Filed
Stockton police have arrested two people accused of being connected to multiple mail theft cases across the city. Authorities say the investigation uncovered counterfeit mailbox keys, stolen mail, and financial documents belonging to victims.
The arrests come as law enforcement continues to crack down on mail theft crimes in the area.
Investigation Began After Community Report
According to police, the investigation began earlier this month after information was forwarded to the department by a Stockton City Council member. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage that showed a suspicious vehicle believed to be connected to the reported mail theft activity.
That video evidence helped investigators move forward in identifying possible suspects.
Federal Postal Inspectors Assist
Stockton Police worked alongside the United States Postal Inspection Service, which assists in investigating crimes involving the mail system.
Through the joint effort, detectives identified two individuals believed to be linked to several incidents:
Dmarcus Javis, 32
Jessica Ta, 35
Both suspects were taken into custody on Wednesday.
What Officers Found During the Arrest
Police say that during the investigation, officers located:
Counterfeit mailbox keys
Hundreds of pieces of stolen mail
Credit cards belonging to other individuals
Checks not issued to the suspects
Authorities say many of the recovered items were tied to multiple victims throughout Stockton.
Charges Filed
In total, the two suspects are facing:
11 felony counts
18 misdemeanor counts
The charges stem from alleged mail theft, possession of stolen property, and related financial crimes.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding how long the investigation had been ongoing or whether more suspects may be involved.
Growing Concern Over Mail Theft
Mail theft has become an increasing concern in many California communities. Stolen checks and credit cards can quickly lead to identity theft and financial fraud.
Authorities encourage residents to:
Retrieve mail promptly
Use locked mailboxes when possible
Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement
The investigation in Stockton remains ongoing.
