Man Accused of Showing Up With Knife at Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz’s Home

A Fresno man is facing charges after authorities say he showed up outside the home of Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz in the early morning hours while armed with a knife.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at a home in the Old Fig Garden area of Fresno. According to local reporting, Fresno County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a trespasser at the home.

Authorities later identified the suspect as Larry Orduna Torrez, 56, of Fresno.

Deputies Say Suspect Was Found in the Yard

Deputies responded to the home and contacted a man in the yard. Authorities said Torrez was taken into custody after deputies found him in possession of a knife.

ABC30 reported that surveillance video showed a man approaching the home, ringing the doorbell with a knife in his hand, and wearing gloves. The report also said the man later moved to the backyard, jumped a fence, and banged on the back door before a deputy moved in.

Janz told Action News that he and his family were inside the home when the man approached.

Charges Filed After the Fresno Home Incident

Torrez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges connected to trespassing, attempted burglary, and threatening a public official, according to local reports.

In court Wednesday, Torrez pleaded not guilty to attempted burglary and trespassing. A judge set bail at $30,000 and ordered Torrez to stay away from Janz and his family.

Because this case is still moving through the court system, the charges remain allegations. Torrez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Janz Says Incident Was “Disturbing” for His Family

Janz said the incident was traumatic and disturbing for his family. He also said he believed the incident may have been connected to Torrez’s recent legal filings involving public officials.

According to Fresno Bee reporting, Janz said Torrez had filed restraining order petitions in recent months against Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto and a probation officer. Those petitions were denied. Janz’s office represented the city in one of those matters.

Janz said he had no prior personal contact with Torrez.

Questions Remain About the Motive

One of the biggest questions is whether Janz was specifically targeted because of his role as Fresno city attorney.

Janz said he believes the incident was not random. However, KMPH reported that it remained unclear whether investigators believed Janz was specifically targeted.

That distinction matters. At this point, what is confirmed is that authorities say Torrez was arrested at Janz’s home, deputies found him with a knife, and he now faces criminal charges.

Court Case Continues

The case is not over. Fresno Bee reported that Torrez’s case is scheduled to return to court for a pre-preliminary hearing on May 27, 2026, followed by a preliminary hearing on June 3, 2026.

The judge also issued a criminal protective order for Janz and his family.

For now, the case has raised serious concern in Fresno because it involved a public official, an alleged late-night trespassing incident, and a knife outside a family home.

Central Valley Entertainment will continue following this case as more court updates become available.
