Hanford Boxer Adrian Valdovinos Killed in Murder-Suicide, Police Say
A Hanford community is mourning the death of 25-year-old boxer Adrian Valdovinos after police say he was killed in a murder-suicide early Sunday morning.
According to Hanford police, officers responded to a home in the 1500 block of University Avenue on May 3, 2026, after a 911 call reported arguing and possible gunshots. Police later identified the suspect as 33-year-old Vincent Diaz.
Police say Diaz forced his way into the home and shot Valdovinos before taking his own life. Valdovinos was found dead inside a bedroom after officers removed a woman from the home and conducted a protective sweep.
What Happened in Hanford?
The shooting happened early Sunday morning near University and Stanford avenues in Hanford.
ABC7 reported that officers arrived within minutes after the 911 call. Police said arguing could be heard in the background during the call, followed by loud noises believed to be gunshots.
When officers arrived, they announced themselves at the home. A final gunshot was heard before police entered the residence. Hanford Police Lt. Justin Vallin told ABC7 that officers saw a male walk past a window before he shot himself.
Adrian Valdovinos Was Found Inside the Home
Police said Valdovinos was found dead inside a bedroom.
ABC30 reported that officers removed a woman from the home before conducting a sweep of the residence. During that sweep, they found Valdovinos, who had been shot to death.
Investigators said Diaz was the ex-husband of the woman in the home. Valdovinos was her current boyfriend, according to police and local reporting.
Police Identify Suspect as Vincent Diaz
Police identified the suspect as Vincent Diaz, 33.
Investigators said Diaz forced his way into the home before shooting Valdovinos. ABC7 reported that Diaz parked about 100 yards away before approaching the home. Police also said they were investigating how Diaz got a firearm because he was a convicted felon and was not legally allowed to possess one.
Authorities said the full sequence happened in less than 10 minutes.
Restraining Order Had Been Requested
ABC7 reported that Diaz and his former wife had been separated since August. Court records showed she requested a restraining order in March involving their child.
Fresno Bee also reported that Diaz’s ex-wife had requested a restraining order in March and that the couple had been separated since the previous summer.
Hanford Community Mourns Adrian Valdovinos
Days after the shooting, family, friends, and community members gathered at Hanford Civic Park for a candlelight vigil.
ABC30 reported that many people came to honor Valdovinos and reflect on the impact he had on the community. His father, Robert Santiago Aguilar, remembered him as forgiving, loving, kind, and selfless.
The vigil also honored Valdovinos’ connection to boxing. Gloves were placed at the vigil to represent his passion for the sport. His brother, Ruben Valdovinos Jr., told Action News that boxing was where Adrian made his name and that he served as a role model while training with the Hanford PAL Program.
Adrian’s Boxing Legacy
Valdovinos was known locally as a talented boxer.
Fresno Bee reported that he trained in the Hanford PAL program. ABC30 also reported that boxing was a major part of his life.
Boxing databases and boxing outlets list Valdovinos’ pro record as 8-2-1, with his last reported fight in May 2021. Some local reports described his record as 10-2, so the exact record should be treated carefully unless confirmed through official boxing records.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
ABC7 reported that police said Diaz and Valdovinos had no known previous conflict. Investigators were also still looking into how Diaz obtained the firearm.
