Modesto, Ca. — On Friday a Woman went missing, Saturday she was found dead in her car at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church’s parking lot in Modesto.
It was through Instagram that Yarseli Lopez, Ceres resident, initially posted about not being able to locate her mother, Erika Lopez. Erika had mentioned to her daughter that she would be home in 30 minutes, but never made it home. This was on Friday September 23rd. 2022.
Yaresli and her father went to look for her mother that night along I-5 but couldn’t find any signs of Erika.

The next day, Saturday 24th at around 3 in the afternoon, Modesto PD responded to a call regarding a possible deceased person in a black Honda sedan in a church parking lot. The area was closed off and police confirmed they had found a deceased person in the car.
The car matched Erika Lopez’s and though Modesto Police Department had not confirmed it, Yaresli had confirmed it was her mother.
When Yaresli was asked if there was anything else she could say about what happened, she mentioned that she feels Ceres and Modesto Police did not do their job. As of today Modesto Police has not she answered whether the death is ruled a homicide.
On Instagram Yaresli does mention a man who she alleges has came over to their home and has tried to break in and threatened the mother, though Ceres PD has not taken any action, according to Yaresli.
