Aug. 24—Five teenagers started smoking at Modesto Brenden Theater on Tuesday. When asked to leave, they allegedly assaulted the theater employees.
According to spokeswoman Sharon Bear from Modesto Police Department the incident happened about 7:30 p.m. when customer service at the theater heard the employee at the ticket counter asking the teenagers to leave.
After telling the teenagers he was calling the police, a 17 year-old boy allegedly slapped the phone from the employee’s hand and the rest of the teens started punching him. Some employees went to aid the worker while someone ran outside.
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Letras said, “Some guy comes running out of Brenden frantically screaming,” He was nearby with some other deputies after they’d barely arrested a shooting suspect from a different crime.

When the deputies went to try and detain the minors, they in turn started fighting with the deputies!
One of the suspects is a 16-year-old girl. She was kicking deputies and was put in a Wrap. A wrap is used to restrain the legs of a suspect while in a seated position.
Eventually, all the suspects were detained, and the deputies suffered only some bruises and scrapes.
Cited and released to their parents were the 16, 15, and 13-year-olds on suspicions of battery, resisting arrest, and conspiracy, no felony charges.
A 16 and 17-year-old boy were booked for the same charges, but were taken to juvenile hall because they received felony charges.
The 17-year-old was booked for a felony robbery because he had in his possession the phone he had allegedly hit from the hand of the employee. Then, the 16-year-old boy faces a felony charge of for resisting arrest, allegedly threatening the officer who was detaining him.
An employee suffered minor injuries and an ambulance was called to the scene to help treat them.
The suspects were medically cleared at the hospital before booked or released to their parents.
